FBC-ABC Statement on Canada-U.S. Trade Uncertainty

The proposed United States (U.S.) tariffs are deeply concerning for Canadian food and beverage manufacturers. Canada and the U.S. have highly integrated supply chains, and continued uncertainty benefits no one. It makes it harder for businesses on both sides of the border to plan, invest and manage costs, and ultimately risks higher prices and reduced choice for consumers.

Canadian food and beverage manufacturers depend on predictable access to the U.S. market, reliable cross-border supply chains and a stable investment environment. Additional tariffs would increase costs, disrupt established commercial relationships, and weaken the competitiveness of businesses on both sides of the border.

FBC-ABC is working closely with its provincial and regional partners to identify the potential impacts on food and beverage manufacturers across the country. We support the Government of Canada’s efforts to defend Canadian businesses and workers, engage constructively with the U.S. and pursue a negotiated resolution.

The immediate priority must be de-escalation and a resolution that restores long-term certainty and preserves the benefits of a deeply integrated North American market.
