February 14, 2025 (OTTAWA) – More than 135 participants gathered in Ottawa on February 11, 2025, to help kick off Canadian Ag Day at Food and Beverage Canada’s (FBC-ABC) annual policy event. This year’s event, Boosting Competitiveness and Productivity in Food and Beverage Manufacturing, attracted industry leaders from across product categories as well as government officials, all committed to advancing Canada’s food and beverage manufacturing industry.
The event featured an expert panel, including Steve Verheul, Principal at gt&co and Canada’s former Chief Trade Negotiator, Candace Laing, President & CEO of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, and J.P. Gervais, Executive Vice President, Strategy and Impact and Chief Economist at FCC, that provided valuable insights into strengthening industry competitiveness. Discussions centered on strategies to navigate the evolving relationship with the United States (U.S.) and reinforce Canada’s position in the global market.
Kristina Farrell, CEO of FBC-ABC, emphasized the importance of these discussions, stating, “The panel provided attendees with a clear understanding of where we need to focus our efforts to ensure our industry can respond effectively to the changing dynamics with the U.S. and bolster our ability to compete.”
In addition to the insightful discussions, the event highlighted the industry’s dedication to giving back, raising $1,500 for Food Banks Canada through the Drive Away Hunger campaign.
FBC-ABC extends its sincere gratitude to the event’s sponsors – FCC, MNP, and Maple Lodge Farms – whose generous support was instrumental in the event’s success.
Planning for next year’s event is already underway. FBC-ABC invites companies interested in joining the association and participating in future events to reach out. Together, we can continue to strengthen Canada’s food and beverage manufacturing industry.
