Food and Beverage Canada Welcomes New Federal Measures to Strengthen Investment in Canadian Manufacturing

September 15, 2026 – Ottawa, Ontario: Food and Beverage Canada (FBC-ABC) welcomes a series of federal announcements this week aimed at strengthening business investment, productivity and domestic food and beverage manufacturing in Canada.

The measures include the launch of FCC’s $1 billion Agri-Food Project Finance Fund, the new Productivity Mega Deduction, and measures to provide greater tax certainty for major investments in Canada.

Together, these initiatives represent important steps toward creating the business conditions needed for companies to invest, modernize, expand and manufacture more in Canada.

The new FCC Agri-Food Project Finance Fund is particularly significant for parts of Canada’s food and beverage manufacturing industry undertaking larger, capital-intensive projects. Established as part of the National Food Security Strategy, the fund will support value-added processing and manufacturing projects in Canada and help address financing gaps that can prevent major investments from moving forward.

FBC-ABC also welcomes the government’s newly proposed Productivity Mega Deduction, which will improve the tax treatment of capital investment and strengthen the business case for companies investing in automation, AI, as well as new transportation equipment, tools, and upgraded machinery.

For food and beverage manufacturers deciding whether to automate a production line, expand an existing facility or build new production capacity, access to capital, competitive tax treatment and greater certainty can have a meaningful impact on where those investments are ultimately made.

“These are important and welcome steps toward making Canada a more competitive place to manufacture food and beverages,” said FBC-ABC’s CEO, Kristina Farrell. “Canada has set an ambitious goal to increase domestic processing capacity, and these measures help create the conditions companies need to make the investments that will get us there.”

FBC-ABC also welcomes measures to provide greater tax certainty for major investments in Canada. Reducing uncertainty and improving predictability are important parts of competing for increasingly mobile global capital.

The announcements closely align with FBC-ABC’s call for a more deliberate approach to food and beverage manufacturing investment. As Canada’s largest manufacturing industry, food and beverage manufacturing has significant opportunities to increase productivity, process more Canadian agricultural production domestically and attract new investment from companies.

“Access to capital, competitive tax treatment and greater certainty can materially improve the case for investing in Canada,” Farrell added. “To fully realize that opportunity, manufacturers also need access to a stable and secure workforce and a regulatory environment that is predictable, efficient and risk-based, so companies can spend more time investing, innovating and growing.”

FBC-ABC looks forward to continuing to work with the federal government to build on this momentum and create the conditions for food and beverage manufacturers of all sizes to invest, modernize, scale and compete in Canada.
