Minister Carr announces investment in Canadian food and beverage processing innovation

Ottawa – July 19, 2019 – Today, the Honourable Jim Carr, Minister of International Trade Diversification, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, announced an investment of up to $30 million in the Canadian Food Innovators Network (CFIN) to be led by Canadian Food Innovators.

Food and Beverage Canada (FBC-ABC) congratulates Canadian Food Innovators on the award which was made under Canada’s Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF).

The food and beverage manufacturing sector is one of Canada’s largest manufacturing sectors, providing over 257,000 jobs to Canadians. Despite the sector’s size, Canadian food and beverage companies have historically underinvested in technology and innovation.

Today’s announcement will provide critical resources to support the food and beverage processing sector and help address the sector’s innovation gap.
